Maya Harris Reveals New Insights on Their Mother’s Journey at DNC

Maya Harris, Kamala Harris’ sister, amazed her audience at the Democratic National Convention in a rare show of support for her sister’s 2024 presidential fight. The lawyer and public policy advocate made a touching speech that connected with the masses.

In her speech, in which she started by revealing their core values from their late mother, Dr. Shyamala Gopalan Harris from India. The two sisters honored their mother while Kamala shared their mother’s memories from India to California when she was a 19-year-old university student.

The Vice President acknowledged that her mother aimed to become a scientist by hunting for a cure for breast cancer in the United States. Kamala expressed, “I miss her every day, especially right now, and I know she’s looking down, smiling”. She narrated how her mother was due to return to India to a traditional arranged marriage but disagreed, choosing to date a Jamaican student, Donald Harris, her own life, which would eventually lead to salvaging Maya and Kamala.

Maya elaborated more on this, saying that their mother believed we ought to be the “authors of our own stories.” She concluded by stating that what their mother wished for them was an American story.

She concluded, saying that their mother (who passed away in 2009) would be proud of Kamala if she were still here at the DNC. And then, “without skipping a beat she would be like, ‘That’s it. You’ve got work to do.’ ”

Kamala, like many Americans knows what it is to be an underdog in this country. — Maya She took a couple of shots at Donald Trump: “To the past in which others would drag us.” Wait we are not going back my sister said.
