Hello, PlayStation fans! If you have tried to log onto your PSN account today and found yourself stuck, you are not alone. Right now, a major outage is affecting the PSN worldwide, taking down the gaming network for many users globally.
The trouble started last night, shortly before 8 PM Eastern Time, when people first started complaining about problems with logging in, playing games, and accessing other services on their PlayStation consoles. This seems to be a pretty widespread outage, taking out not only new consoles such as the PS5 and PS4 but even older models like the PS3 and PS Vita.
What’s happening? Well, word has it that the downtime involves more services than one would expect. Gamers can’t log into their accounts, let alone create new ones or edit account details. There isn’t any online gaming going on, nor can users browse and buy new games from the PlayStation Store or even download previously bought titles1. Not even streaming games and access to content from PlayStation Video are possible as of now.
Sony updated its status page for the PlayStation Network, which reflects ongoing problems after the company acknowledged that it had an issue. However, there has been no in-depth explanation provided, as they only assured users that they are putting much effort into completely resolving it. “We’re working to resolve the issue as soon as possible,” the company wrote in the status update. “Thank you for your patience”.
This is the second major outage in as many days, the first an extremely disruptive Verizon outage. A lot of people who were affected by the Verizon outage were looking forward to kicking back with some gaming, and it just so happened that PSN was also down. It has just been a frustrating period for gamers who just want to unwind and play their video games.
Social media is filled with complaints and memes about this outage. Gamers are quite vocal about their frustration, and they share tales of what happened to them in the hopes that things may turn around ASAP. Others even remembered how they dealt with outages in the past.
While that is indeed all a real pain in the neck, it’s best to keep things in perspective: these things do happen now and then. The best thing you can do is sit tight and keep checking the official PlayStation Network status page for further updates. Sony is probably working around the clock to get everything sorted out.
