Authorities are seeking a gunman in the death of a motorist to whom other motorists gave chase after he crashed along Panorama City street, according to Los Angeles Police Department officials.
The crash occurred on Van Nuys Boulevard near Osborne Street around 1:30 a.m.
Police said a motorist was shot and lost control of their vehicle, crashing into the fence at an apartment complex. Video from the scene shows gunfire-damaged vehicles parked on the street.
Nothing more is being reported about the shooting but freelance media firm KNN says that a person was shot in the chest.
The driver, whose identity has not been released, is hospitalized after being transported unconscious and unresponsive to a nearby hospital.
Update, 10:03 AM PT: The motorist was pronounced dead later that night, according to a Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson.
The sheriff’s office has not said anything regarding any potential suspect, or if anyone could be driving a specific vehicle as of this time.
