Buckingham Palace has launched an investigation after a staff member was arrested following a chaotic Christmas party.
Police were called to a bar in Victoria, central London—just a short distance from the palace—on Tuesday evening when a festive gathering escalated into violence.
A 24-year-old woman, whose identity remains undisclosed, was arrested on suspicion of common assault, criminal damage, and being drunk and disorderly, according to London’s Metropolitan Police.
The woman, believed to be a maid at the palace, reportedly spent the night and much of the following day in police custody. According to The Sun, she was among approximately 50 palace staff attending the night out and allegedly smashed glasses before turning on a bar staff member.
Palace management has confirmed that the incident is under investigation and that disciplinary action may follow.
A palace spokesperson told the BBC: “We are aware of an incident outside the workplace involving a number of Household staff who had previously attended an early evening reception at the Palace.
“While this was an informal social gathering, not an official Palace Christmas party, the facts will be fully investigated, with a robust disciplinary process followed in relation to individual staff and appropriate action taken.”
The spokesperson also clarified that the bar outing after the reception was informal and not organized by the palace.
