Jennifer Lopez has filed for divorce from Ben Affleck

Hollywood stars Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are ending their marriage after two years. Lopez filed for divorce on Tuesday in the Los Angeles County Superior Court.

The couple, often referred to as “Bennifer” by the media, officially married in Las Vegas in July 2022, followed by a larger ceremony in Georgia the next month. Their relationship originally blossomed while working together on the 2003 film “Gigli.” Though they had initially planned to wed that same year, they ended their relationship in early 2004. Nearly two decades later, they rekindled their romance.

“Love is beautiful. Love is kind. And it turns out love is patient. Twenty years patient,” Lopez said in 2022 after announcing their Las Vegas wedding.

The BBC has reached out to their representatives for comment.

According to a court filing, Lopez or her attorney must serve Affleck with a copy of the divorce petition. Media reports note that Lopez, who had legally changed her last name to Affleck, did not mention any details of a prenuptial agreement in her filing.

The document filed in the LA Superior Court outlines that both Lopez, 55, and Affleck, 52, are required to share financial details, including current income, expenses, properties, and debts. They are also mandated to update any changes to their finances “until there is a final agreement about all financial issues in your case.”

Lopez has 60 days to submit a financial disclosure, with Affleck given an additional 60 days to respond after receiving her information. Failure to comply with financial reporting or updates could result in court-imposed sanctions.

Speculation about their relationship has been mounting for months. Reports indicate that they listed their Beverly Hills mansion for $65 million (£50 million) and were recently seen separately, both without their wedding rings.
