JD Souther, Legendary Songwriter, Dies at 78

John David “JD” Souther- vocalist and songwriter- passed away on September 17, 2024, at the ripe age of 78 years peacefully at his house in New Mexico.

JD Souther has been known to write many chart-topping songs for the Eagles and Linda Ronstadt, which included the songs “New Kid in Town,” “Best of My Love,” and “Heartache Tonight”3. He has also had a few hit songs himself, solo, like “You’re Only Lonely”.

Souther’s musical works largely contributed to the country-rock sound of the 1970s. Many artists, including those from the Eagles4, such as Don Henley and Glenn Frey, were close friends and collaborators. He also worked with James Taylor and Bonnie Raitt.

JD Souther will be remembered and celebrated through his music by fans and musicians alike. He leaves behind timeless songs that continue to inspire.
