Army Defends Arlington Cemetery Official After Incident with Trump Staff

An employee of Arlington National Cemetery who got into a fight with workers from former President Donald Trump’s campaign earlier this week has received support from the U.S. Army. The Army provided more information about what transpired and labeled the employee’s critique as “unfair”.

When the cemetery official attempted to enforce the cemetery’s laws prohibiting political activity, an incident happened on Monday. The Army said that the worker was “abruptly pushed aside” by Trump’s entourage as they attempted to carry out their duties. The employee chose not to file charges despite reporting the incident to the authorities, and the Army now views the case as closed.

According to Steven Cheung, a spokesman for the Trump campaign, the cemetery administrator was “suffering from a mental health episode.” Chris LaCivita, a different Trump advisor, denounced the worker and referred to them as a “despicable individual.” The Army stressed that it was “unfortunate” that the employee’s professionalism had been questioned, without specifically mentioning Trump’s campaign.

The Army emphasized that the personnel at Arlington National Cemetery is committed to making sure that ceremonies are held with the utmost care, and that the cemetery is a hallowed location remembering deceased U.S. service members. The Trump team and everyone else participating in the wreath-laying ceremony were made aware of the regulations that forbid political activities at the cemetery, according to the Army.

According to Cheung, members of Trump’s crew were physically obstructed by a cemetery employee, even though the private photographer was granted permission to be present. He refuted accounts that called the event a “physical altercation.”

Three years after an attack in Afghanistan claimed the lives of thirteen US service members, President Trump paid a visit to Arlington National Cemetery. During the United States troop withdrawal from the nation following two decades of conflict, the attack took place in 2021. Regarding how they handled the troop drawdown, President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have come under fire from President Trump.

During their visit to the cemetery, a few veterans voiced their outrage at the things that the Trump campaign had done.
