Lindsey Graham Urges Trump to Focus on Policy, Not Showmanship, for Election Victory

Senator Lindsey Graham has shared his thoughts on what could help Donald Trump secure a victory in the upcoming election, and it’s not about showmanship. According to Graham, Trump needs to focus on policy to win. “President Trump can win this election. His policies are good for America, and if we have a policy debate for president, he wins,” Graham said during an interview on NBC’s Meet the Press on Sunday, August 18. “Donald Trump, the provocateur, the showman, may not win this election.”

Graham emphasized the importance of Trump defining his plans for the country in the final 80 days of the campaign, particularly on issues like fixing the borders and lowering inflation. He also highlighted the potential difficulty for Democrats if Vice President Kamala Harris is forced to defend her policy record. “A nightmare for Harris is to defend her policy choices,” Graham noted. “Every day we’re not talking about her policy choices as vice president, and what she would do as president, is a good day for her and a bad day for us. Policy is the key to the White House,” he added.

Trump has made several criticisms of Harris, focusing on her race and appearance. Recently, Nikki Haley suggested that Trump should shift his focus to more substantive issues. Graham, on the other hand, urged top Republicans to actively campaign for Trump rather than just offering advice. “Me and Nikki need to go to Georgia. We’re giving advice on TV to President Trump,” Graham said, referencing other prominent Republicans like Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin. “Let’s get together and actually campaign for the guy.”

Trump’s running mate, JD Vance, acknowledged Haley’s criticisms but defended the campaign’s strategy. “I think Ambassador Haley is right that we need to reach a broader group of voters, but I think we’re doing exactly that,” Vance told Fox News Sunday. He argued that Harris’s tenure as vice president has led to policies that contributed to rising inflation and global instability.
