Henderson, NC – A 21-year-old Black man named Javion Magee was found dead near a tree with a rope around his neck on September 11, 2024. The incident happened in a rural area off Vanco Mill Road, close to his truck.
Sheriff Curtis R. Brame of Vance County stated that this was not a lynching. He explained that Magee was not hanging from the tree but was found sitting with his back against it. The rope was wrapped around his neck, but it was not tied in a noose.
Magee’s family, who are from Chicago, are upset and seeking more information. They believe there might be more to the story and are traveling to North Carolina to get answers.
The sheriff’s office is working with the State Bureau of Investigation to find out what happened. They have sent Magee’s body for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
