The Bombers showcased another impressive defensive effort, stifling the Leos and their returning quarterback. Tyrell Ford and Deatrick Nichols each grabbed an interception, as Winnipeg limited BC to just three points at BC Place.
Quarterback Zach Collaros found receiver Nic Demski for a touchdown, and backup Chris Streveler added another score with a quarterback sneak, lifting the Bombers to a 4-6 record.
Rourke struggled under constant pressure throughout the game, throwing two interceptions without finding the end zone. Fullback David Mackie scored a late touchdown, but it wasn’t enough to prevent the Lions from dropping to 5-5.
Rourke’s opening drive stalled near midfield as the Bombers’ defensive front applied relentless pressure on the quarterback.
Winnipeg’s first offensive series was highly successful. With Kenny Lawler back in action, the team drove down the field to score the first six points. Collaros connected with Lawler twice, bringing the Bombers into the red zone, before firing a pass to a wide-open Nic Demski in the end zone for the touchdown.
The rest of the first quarter saw both teams exchange punts, with the defenses dominating the line of scrimmage. Bombers’ defensive lineman Willie Jefferson sacked Rourke on second down, forcing BC to punt again. The Lions responded with their defensive stand, as Sione Teuhema took down Collaros, leading to a punt by the Blue and Gold on the final play of the quarter.
The second quarter began with another big play from Winnipeg’s defense. Deatrick Nichols intercepted a pass from Rourke and returned it deep into BC territory, setting up the Bombers for another scoring opportunity. However, the Lions’ defense held firm, limiting Winnipeg to a field goal attempt. Castillo’s kick hit the upright, leaving the score at 7-0 in favor of the visitors.
