Kerry County Council has announced that it is monitoring the flooding situation in Kerry following a High Tide Advisory issued by Met Éireann. This advisory is in effect from 12 noon on Wednesday, August 21, to 12 noon on Friday, August 23.
The advisory is due to a period of ‘supermoon’ spring tides, expected to be among the highest of 2024, which are causing elevated coastal tides. Additionally, Ireland is anticipated to experience strong winds and increased storm surge from the remnants of Hurricane Ernesto.The combination of strong onshore winds, high spring tides, and elevated waves may lead to coastal flooding and wave overtopping.
In response, Kerry County Council has activated its Severe Weather Assessment Team and is closely monitoring the situation. Property owners and residents in areas at risk of coastal flooding are advised to take the usual precautions during this High Tide Advisory.
